Students and Youth

Tyrone Rotary’s programs for students and youth can change the lives of those who participate...

As a Rotary Youth Exchange student, high-schoolers may spend up to a year living with a few host families and attending school in a different country.

Whether they participate in Rotary’s long-term or short-term Youth Exchange programs, they’ll learn a new way of living, a great deal about themself, and perhaps a new language. They’ll also be an ambassador, teaching people about their country, culture, and ideas. They can help bring the world closer — and make some good friends in the process.

More than 8,000 young people each year have experiences like these through Rotary Youth Exchange. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime.

District 7350 RYLA Conference
June 13–16, 2010
Juniata College
Huntingdon, Pa.

RYLA is an intensive training program for community youth leaders. Young people chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice.

Tyrone Rotary will select the participants, pay their expenses, and ensure transportation to and from the conference.

   RYLA’s core curriculum includes ...

  • Fundamentals of leadership
  • Ethics of positive leadership
  • Importance of communication skills in effective leadership
  • Problem solving and conflict management
  • Rotary’s purpose and service to the community
  • Building self confidence and self esteem
  • Elements of community and global citizenship

During the intensive RYLA seminar, keynote speakers from various professions, and perhaps even a few Rotarians, address the participants on issues which are particularly relevant to the development of strong personal and leadership qualities. Much time is devoted to activities that provide for participants to get to know one another and to work together on group projects. Evenings are devoted to varied activities such as organizing a talent show, recreation activities, campus movies and concerts, and social events.

The conference will be directed by Rotary professionals, assisted by qualified educators. In addition, lectures and discussions will be presented by experts and leaders in business, law, government, and the community.

District 7350 RYLA candidates are ...

  • High school juniors entering their senior year
  • Those who demonstrate leadership abilities
  • Potential leaders who work toward results
  • Young people who will build lifetime relationships with other participants
  • Those who want to enrich their lives and have fun
